I widh I could play Poker with Phil Fulmer

Me: Hey Phil its on you
Phil: I know, I’m thinking, uhh I fold.
Me: Phil you down big time what are you gonna do?
Phil: I know but there is no way I can hit the card I need, so I fold.
Me: Phil all I had was Jack high but I knew you would fold..If you wanna win at this game you gotta GAMBLE!!!!!
Saturday against Auburn in the second half at some point Fulmer has to realize he is still losing the game. I don’t care if it only by two points you still have to score to win the game. With the new clock rules you cant sit back and play the flip the field game. Plus Tennessee had flipped the field as much as they could. The offense could not get the team in field goal range. AT SOME POINT YOU GOTTA GAMBLE and try to score and win. If you are so confident in the defense then go for it on Fourth down and then stop Auburn. I know its not what you would do all the time. But when your losing you have to score. Fulmer played the second half like he was ahead by two touchdowns.
Crompton is just terrible. I believe he is single handily responsible for the loss of two games. UCLA and Auburn. I’m a pretty understanding guy and I don’t like for people to fail, but Crompton has done it to himself and Tennessee football is bigger then him. The offense cannot be any worse right now if my 14 year old son was under center.
I thought going into this game the only way Fulmer can win this game is to change things up and gambled a bit. Instead he played one of the most conservative games of his career. The worst thing about it is Auburn was beatable on Saturday because they had no offense either and defense played hard.
Our defense played great except for the dreaded 3rd and long. When is Chavis going to learn. If you saw the replay there was absolutely no reason for Auburns receiver to be that wide open at the end of the game when stopping them was your only chance to win. If Auburn makes a great play then there is nothing you can do but when you allow the receiver 15 yards and he only needs 5 your giving it to them.
There was a shot of Clawson in the booth after Cromptom threw a ball 50 Yards out of bounds. I could read his lips. He leaned back and said ‘WOW” I have to believe he was thinking to himself that he cant believe this is the only QB he can work with. Watch out Clawson your getting real close to becomeing the scapegoat for this season.
Im sure it will be interesting on talk radio this week.

The vols and a Bo Jackson reference

Back in 1985. Bo Jackson and his Auburn Tigers came to Knoxville undefeated and Ranked no. 1 This was one of the best games I have ever attended of all time. As a kid I usually had to sit up in the nose bleed section in double Q. This day however a buddy of mine somehow scored some tickets down on the 40 yard line about 20 rows back. Right from the start the Vols had Auburns number and the crowd was electrified the whole game. Even though Bo Jackson ended up wining the Heisman that year he looked more like high school freshman against the pumped up Vol defense. In fact Jackson left the game in the 3rd quarter never to return. Tennessee went on to win the SEC championshipt and DEMOLISH Maimi in the sugar bowl in a game that left the national broadcast announcers stunned and tongue tied.
When Tennessee visits Auburn today at 3:30 it will be the first time this game has been predicted to be this lopsided since that day back in 1985. Can The Vols and Eric Berry fins someway to ignite that type of emotion and play with kind of heart and surprise me and the nation and knock off the War Eagles.

Vols and Auburn

Well, as much as I want the Vols to win. I just don’t think they have enough offense to get it done. Auburn’s defense will eat Arian Foster for lunch. I think they have 4 defensive lineman that have faster 40 times then Foster. Fulmer is going to have to do something he has not really ever done and that is take some chances with personnel on Offense. By this I mean give the ball to Creer!! or let G. Jones do something unexpected out of the G-gun, or the G-run as I have heard it called lately. If Crompton cant get it done and the game is out of hand he has to play Stephens. I think the defense can keep us in this game but they have to find a way to get off the field on 3rd and long.
I am curious to see how South Carolina does against UAB if they hang 50 on them it will be just as telling as BYU putting up 59 on UCLA. What is Fresno State going todo to UCLA this week? You cant tell me that BYU or Fresno State out athlete Tenn. (must be coaching)
I think Alabama is going to be a speed bump in Geogia’s road to the Title.
Enjoy the sporting weekend

Is Talent level finally exposing Fulmer?

Back in Fulmers hey day, He had loads of Talent. In fact a lot of people in the “know” said if coach XYZ had the talent that Fulmer had. They would have won Three National Championships. Well Fulmer did get his Title but he basically had a NFL team when he did it. So how much coaching did he actually have to do. Some would say we rode the tails of Coach Majors Recruits and was able to parlay that with some outstanding recruiting of his own into the highest winning percentage of active coaches(at the time) Again I ask how much actual coaching did he do. After the 98 season for whatever reason the recruiting and talent level started to slowly decline. We weren’t getting scrubs by any means we still grabbed loads of talent but just not the super superstars. As the Talent declines, the coaching needs to increase. I believe our present overall talent level at Tennessee (we do have some NFL players or players that could play on any team) is just to low for Fulmer’s actual coaching capacity. So what is the answer? Do we need a new coach or better talent? Or can we only get better talent if we get a new coach? Why are we losing the talent? is it because of Fulmer’s style of play? Is it because Fulmer is old school? Is it because you cant start or even play as a freshman? There has to be a reason. If Fulmer is going to turn it around it has to be by getting better talent.
2008 No Talent + No X’s and O’s = 4-8 W-L
Joe Paterno, a few years ago Penn State stunk and now they dont. What changed? Joe’s coaching or player Talent.
Bobby Bowden, A few years ago great team. Now they aren’t what happened coaching or talent?

The Punter???? and a Billy Whiteshoes Johnson reference

What in the world is the Tennessee coaching staff smoking? They wanna change the punter!!!! Boy this really sums up the state of Tennessee football doesn’t it? With everything that was wrong about Saturdays game they single out the punter. On the Sports page this morning Bob Hodge talked about how there is no-way you should punt to Brandon James. I say that’s a bunch a bull. When you avoid kicking to somebody you pump up there entire team(not that Florida needed it) the better solution is to just tackle the guy. Thats the problem not the punter. I say you punt it to brandon James, Deshawn Jackson, Rocket Ismail, Billy Whiteshoes Johnson, Devin Hester or whoever. Punt it to them and them Smash em when they catch it. The Tennessee teams of the nineties would not be scared to punt it to anybody.. What would Bill Bates say? Probably you better punt it to him so I can welcome him to Knoxville the proper way.
Its not about the punter its about the coaching….Come on Staff!!!!

The Vols were out coached and out played

You cant hang in the SEC with no offense
Well, if your a Vol fan then your probably not very happy right now but your also probably not surprised either. We have zero offense. Nothing, one playmaker in G Jones, but when that it, its easy to key on him and shut him down. Things started in the wrong direction right from the first kickoff when James broke tackles and turned what should have been a no gainer into excellent field position for the gators. After the gators scored and we needed to answer Arian Foster gets a personal foul and Hardesty fumbled to kill the drive and the momentum. Then James has a punt return for a TD,,”the kicking game oh so important” When we could not punch it in the endzone on two seperate possesions from inside the two yard line I knew it was over. Overall I just didnt see anything to get excited about. Crompton just is not getting it done. Foster is an average back. the receivers cant get open deep and if they do Crompton can find em. I certianally did not understand throwing the ball on third and one early on and then again on fourth and two near the endzone. Can someone please explain the clockrules to me. Last week the half ended on a penalty and this week a quarter ended on a dead ball play. How can they start the clock after a dead ball of a penalty…just crazy. Its gonna be tough next week at Auburn.

Don't be Surprised

Don't be surprised if somehow the ol'Vols find a way to pull this off. For whatever reason when the Vols think they have nothing to lose, They play like they can't lose. Well as much as my mind says the gators will walk away with this game. My Heart, My Heart keeps telling me NO! I will be in section I screaming and yelling to my hearts desire and I know I will fully believe in my VOLS. I think a key to success will be: Chavis has to play lock down in the secondary. If he allows a 10 yard cushion Tebow will have his way with him. That cushion opens up the option in the spread option.

If the receivers are covered Tebow has to commit to the run much earlier and in turn the defense can commit to knocking him on his tail. On Offense hopefully Foster can have some success but as you know he is not gonna break the long one. He will leave that to Lenin Creer. I like Hardesty a lot but there is just something missing. He hits the hole hard he has the break away speed. But whats missing? the innate natural ability to make people miss. I'm putting my money on Creer. Hit me back Ya'll

VOLS This Saturday 3:30

When the ball flies in the air on Saturday. Will Tennessee and Phil Fulmer find a way to hit the "ace on the river" Coach Fulmer always seems to hit a one-outer when his back is against the wall. My Prediction: Florida as many as they want, Tennessee as many as they can get!!!Im not ready to call for Crompton's job as starting QB just yet but his performance has been quit dismal. He seems to have his mind made up to where he is going to throw it even before the ball is snapped. Another thing that I dont understand is his slight "tilt" backwards just prior to the snap. I cant believe you can go through spring training and your QB and Offensive Coordinator not notice this type of thing. I can gaurantee that a coach like Urban Myer will notice and he probably already has told his defense to key on this for that extra edge. If you happened to stay for the fourth quarter of the game you would have seen Stephens enter the game. I was very surprised that Fulmer allowed him to attempt a pass on 3rd and 8 with the game well in hand. The best thing about this pass was that he made the right READ and hit the wide open receiver. Crompton had the same play called earlier in the game and had the TE wide open down the middle but he chose to throw and incomplete pass to the double covered receiver running down the left sidline. One more point to mention is just how slow is Foster? I've seen Lava flow faster then him. I have maintained for years he is a good open field runner but he cant break tackles, he slow to hit the hole and lacks "take it to the House Speed". The NFL scouts must see something because he coulda opted to go last year. I think this Vol team has loads of talent I just dont know if the coaching staff knows exactly how to play the Hand. What is up with the defense giving a 10 yard cushion when you have a lock down secondary? As bad as the offense looked against UCLA it was this 10 Yard cushion that lost that game. However I will not be surprised if the Vols sneak up and score 11 safeties on them and beat'em 22-0Hit me back Ya'llKeith
